What is an anime pilgrimage (seichi junrei)?

It is a trip to the real places that appear in an anime or manga. It began as fan culture in 1990s Japan and is now established enough that local governments publish official pilgrimage routes. OSHIROAD verifies each spot and its coordinates, then packs them into a day-by-day route.

How it works — 3 steps

  1. Pick a title — Choose from a catalog of 54 titles, or write in the one you want if it is missing.
  2. AI builds the route — We compute spot coordinates, travel time and opening hours into a half-day to six-day course.
  3. Hand off as much as you want — Take the course kit alone, or add booking assistance and a local guide, step by step.

Frequently asked questions

It is my first pilgrimage — can I go alone?

Yes. Most spots are ordinary destinations such as stations, shopping streets and shrines, so going solo is fine. OSHIROAD checks closures, construction and weekday access restrictions in advance to prevent wasted trips, and can connect you with fans visiting the same title on the same day.

How much does it cost?

The AI course planner and the pilgrimage spot data are free, and OSHIROAD currently sells no paid products. Flights, lodging and local transport are paid directly by you. If you book through one of our lodging links we may earn an affiliate commission, but the price you pay does not change.

How many days does a pilgrimage usually take?

Spots inside Tokyo (Jujutsu Kaisen, The Garden of Words) fit a half-day or single day. Trips to Numazu, Chichibu or Hida take one night and two days. Titles that cross several prefectures, such as Suzume, are best given five to six days.

What etiquette should I follow at pilgrimage spots?

Many spots are residential streets or working shops. Do not enter private property, photograph people without consent, or make noise; schools and hospitals often ban photography entirely. OSHIROAD lists the specific etiquette notes for each spot alongside the route.
